WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation distributed improved Ragi (Finger Millet) seeds free of cost among women farmers in Dadi, Digadon, Sirka, Chanpi, Kudlum, and surrounding villages of Karra Block in Khunti district, Jharkhand.
The primary objective of this initiative was to connect women farmers with nutritious, climate-resilient, and income-generating agricultural practices, promote traditional millets, and strengthen the economic self-reliance of rural women through agriculture.
Ragi, also known as Finger Millet, is a highly nutritious crop rich in essential nutrients such as calcium, iron, dietary fibre, and other important micronutrients. It is also a relatively water-efficient crop and can perform well under conditions of limited rainfall, making it a valuable option for farmers facing changing weather patterns and dry conditions.
During the programme, women farmers were provided with information on scientific Ragi cultivation, seed treatment, appropriate sowing methods, crop management, and improved production practices. The initiative encouraged farmers to adopt better agricultural techniques while making greater use of locally suitable and climate-resilient crops.
The participating women farmers welcomed the initiative and appreciated its potential to contribute to increased household income, improved food security, and better family nutrition. By promoting millet cultivation, the programme also seeks to reconnect rural communities with traditional nutritious crops while creating new livelihood opportunities.
WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation believes that empowering women farmers is an important pathway towards stronger, self-reliant, and prosperous villages. The Foundation will continue supporting farmers through access to quality seeds, modern agricultural practices, capacity-building and training, and livelihood enhancement initiatives.
Through such interventions, WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation aims to strengthen the role of women in agriculture and create sustainable opportunities for rural and tribal communities.
