WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation facilitated a special scientific agriculture training program at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Khunti, for progressive farmers and women farmers from Karra and Khunti blocks. The program focused on soil health management, sustainable farming practices, balanced nutrient management, and eco-friendly mango fruit fly management techniques to enhance productivity, improve income, and promote climate-resilient agriculture.
During the first phase of the program, participants attended a training session under the campaign “Save the Soil – Healthy Soil, Prosperous Farmers, Prosperous India.” Agricultural scientists highlighted the importance of soil testing and explained the scientific use of balanced fertilizers based on soil health reports. Farmers were also trained on organic and natural farming practices, water conservation, crop rotation, micronutrient management, and cost-effective cultivation techniques that help achieve higher yields with lower production costs.
Experts emphasized that healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture and that adopting scientific cultivation methods can significantly improve productivity while protecting natural resources. The training encouraged farmers to integrate environmentally friendly practices into their farming systems for long-term agricultural sustainability.
The second phase of the program featured a special demonstration on “Frontline Demonstration – Bio-Rational Management of Mango Fruit Fly.” Agricultural experts explained the economic losses caused by mango fruit fly infestation, its life cycle, identification methods, and effective eco-friendly management strategies. Farmers received practical demonstrations on the use of pheromone traps and other attractant traps for monitoring and controlling the pest population in an environmentally sustainable manner. The necessary materials were also provided to participants for implementation in their own orchards.
The training further emphasized reducing excessive dependence on chemical pesticides by adopting scientific and biological pest management practices. Such approaches not only improve fruit quality and reduce production costs but also protect environmental and human health. In addition, participants received valuable guidance on orchard management, pest and disease control, post-harvest handling, value addition, and marketing strategies to secure better prices for their produce.
WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation believes that merely informing farmers about government schemes is not sufficient. Sustainable agricultural development requires practical training, direct exposure to scientific institutions, and hands-on experience with modern technologies. Therefore, the Foundation remains committed to collaborating with Krishi Vigyan Kendras, agricultural universities, and relevant government departments to organize similar capacity-building programs in the future.
Through such initiatives, WCSF CharitySpirit Foundation aims to empower the farmers of Jharkhand with technical knowledge, sustainable farming practices, and market-oriented skills, enabling them to become self-reliant, economically prosperous, and active contributors to the national vision of “Prosperous Farmers – Prosperous India.”
